Fall Photo and Camping Extravaganza
With Mandy Lea and Sony Camera
Pack up the sleeping bags, ready the camper, gather up the family and spend two nights with Precision Camera and roaming photographer and nuCamp Ambassador Mandy Lea at the beautiful Lake Fayette Oak Thicket Park in Fayetteville. Our first camping event for the spring sold out so quickly we thought we would plan another for the fall. Sony will offer free loaner gear including cameras and lenses. Just bring an SD memory card.
Mandy Lea will once again lead the event, teaching us how to photograph and use our cameras better for vacation and landscape photos.
You'll be learning landscape photography from one of the best, as Mandy Lea and other pros guide our group to several unique areas around the park for sunrise and sunset shoots. Get one-on-one instruction from a brilliant photographer and add to your portfolio in this small group setting. We will also go out to nearby areas such as Round Top to explore. This trip is near so many great Texas original places. Round Top, old bridges, Monument Hill & Kreische Brewery State Historic Site, Painted Churches and more.
Our final itinerary is not set, Mandy will scope out the area and pick it. One thought is that we might have two or three different events on Saturday. We can split up in smaller groups and explore what really interests you.
Optional Photo Excursions
Home of the famous and widely popular Antique Show every year, you can hunt for that one of kind piece.
Also no visit is complete until you eat at Royer’s Round Top Café. Not only do they have great home cooking, but they are really known for their pie. You gotta get a slice of that while you’re there.
Painted Churches of Fayette County
If you've lived in Texas for any length of time you've heard of the Painted Churches of Fayette County. They have appeared in magazines, on television programs, and in newspaper features around the state and beyond. The term "Painted" comes from the elaborate faux-finished interiors - painted by itinerant artists who advertised in church bulletins and newspapers. Several were resident artists in San Antonio. Gold-leafed, stone and polished marble columns and ceilings are (upon closer examination) actually finely-fitted woodwork. The paint - mixed on site - is still vibrant and bright - even after all these years.
Junk Gypsy is a welcoming boutique housed in a barn that features a mix of old and new items ranging from home decor to jeans to old rotary phones. The shop started when the owners, two sisters, left their corporate jobs and started selling at flea markets across Texas with their mother in 1998. They had a show on HGTV.
Monument Hill & Kreische Brewery State Historic Site
In 1860 Mr. Kreische began building one of the first breweries in Texas. He cleverly built it in a ravine below his house that was feed water from a spring that he used in the production of beer. By the middle of the Civil War the brewery was producing beer in a nine step brewing process with an ingenious gravity feed water system. When a new batch of beer was ready a large banner was raised that said "Frisch Auf" (Freshen Up). This was an invitation to the community to come to the bluff and enjoy a picnic, dancing, games and a stein or two or three of "Kreische's Bluff Beer"!The park houses a stone monument commemorating heroes of the Texas War for Independence that are buried on the park grounds along with the ruins of the third largest brewery in the State at the peak of its popularity.
