The
Photography of
Bob Lilly |
Born in Throckmorton, Texas,
he moved with his family for his senior year in high school to Pendleton,
Oregon where he became an Oregon All-Stater in football and
basketball. Bob returned to Fort Worth to attend Texas Christian University on a football scholarship, where he earned All-American honors. Upon graduation,
Bob was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys as their number one draft choice,
where he remained for the next 14 years. Making the All-Pro Team seven
times and
playing in 11 Pro All-Star games, upon his retirement in 1975, his name was inscribed above Texas Stadium, in the Ring of Honor. Bob was inducted into the Pro
Football Hall of Fame in 1980, the College Football Hall of Fame in 1981, and was selected by the NFL to their 75th Anniversary All-Time team in 1994.
After his retirement from pro football, Bob moved to Waco, Texas, where he successfully operated a business until 1982, when he sold it and launched his landscape
photography career. In 1983 Bob co-authored a book called Reflections with sportswriter Sam Blair. Bob lived in Las Cruces, New Mexico, from 1984 to 1989, where he
opened a photo art gallery, complete with both color and black & white darkrooms. In 1989 Bob moved back to Texas, settling in Graham, two hours west of
Dallas and now resides in Georgetown just north of Austin.
Bob's interest in photography began when he was selected to the Kodak Coaches'
All-American Team in 1961 and was given a 35 mm camera plus a year's supply of
film. From there he has advanced through an ever more sophisticated
inventory of hardware, including Leica, Nikon, Hasselblad, Mamiya, Canon, and 4 x 5 field cameras. His latest interest, sparked by the need to
retouch old pictures, has taken him into the computer world of digital imaging.
An avid Macintosh user, his digital darkroom also include several
Apple Macintosh computers, a Roland Hi-Fi
JET Pro printer, Epson Stylus Pro 7500 printer and an Imacon Flextight
Precision-II drum
scanner. |
