I began birding seriously in the mid-1970's and
started photographing birds in 1977. I have been involved in Texas ornithology and birding
ever since. Most of my early photography was an effort to document rare birds in Texas.
For more information about Texas rarities, please visit the Texas Bird Records Committee
website, where a great deal of information about that organization can be found.
I have been a member of the Texas Bird Records Committee of
the Texas Ornithological Society since 1986 and serve on the Bird Records Committee of
the American Birding Association. In these various capacities I have become involved
with rarity records in Texas and the rest of North America. My photography has progressed
from "snapshot" type photos of rarities to more recent and higher-quality photos
that have been published in a number of birding and nature oriented magazines, books,
catalogs, and other media.
In 1997, I retired as a lieutenant from the Austin Police Department
after a 25-year career in law enforcement and began leading birding tours for Victor Emanuel Nature Tours (VENT).
I led VENT trips from 1985 until 1997 on a part-time basis, typically one or two trips per
year. With my retirement from APD I have been able to lead these trips on a more regular
basis. In addition to leading VENT trips, I spend a lot of time developing my free-lance
wildlife photography business. I have been fortunate to travel to many areas of the world
over the past years and have been able to obtain a number of photographs of birds and
other wildlife. As this website progresses I hope to show a number of images that you may
enjoy. I also hope to see you on a VENT tour with me sometime! |
