• 7.5 Megapixel LiveMOS Sensor
• The 4/3-type LiveMOS sensor used in the Leica Digilux 3 not only makes full-time Live View possible, it also helps capture the beautiful images of a traditional CCD sensor with delicate gradation and a wide dynamic range, while also conserving power.
• Four Thirds Standard Lens Mount

• The lens mount system used in the Leica Digilux 3 is based on the Four Thirds open standard. This helps provide the optimal lens design for digital photography while also making it possible to create a lens that is small in size without sacrificing focal distance or brightness. Use of the Four Thirds Standard also means the Digilux 3 can use lenses made by other manufacturers using the same standard-providing you with an extensive range of interchangeable lenses to choose from.

•  Advanced Image Signal Processor

• The image signal processor of the Leica Digilux 3 was specially matched to the superb imaging performance of the Leica D lens and interaction with the new LiveMOS technology. This means it can cater for the high requirements of SLR photography in terms of performance and picture quality. The processor results in excellent color reproduction, maximum resolution and outstanding gradation - combined with extremely fast processing times with minimum delay. In conjunction with the energy-saving LiveMOS sensor the Digilux 3 can deliver over 450 pictures with one battery charge.

• Enhanced Zoom Capability

• The Leica Digilux 3 supports an Extended optical zoom that provides an additional 1.5x with reduced resolution, and a Digital zoom of 2x or 4x (only available in Live View mode).

• Optial Image Stabilization Support

• Leica has combined outstanding optical imaging performance with state-of-the-art image stabilization in a D lens. Whenever you want to avoid camera shake, just switch on the image stabilizer (O.I.S.). Integrated in the lens, it ensures sharply focused images in all situations - in twilight, for indoor exposures or in the zoom range. The image stabilizer is a reliable help for exposures taken without a tripod, too.

•  Superior Signal-to-noise Ratio

• Individual processing of chrominance and luminance noise means that the problem of picture noise becomes a thing of the past. The Digilux 3 cuts down on luminance noise, which mainly occurs in the shadows of a picture, with efficient noise reduction. The Digilux 3 is equipped with a filter which filters out color noise and processes it separately. In addition, the image signal processor minimizes lens errors such as color fringing and distortion - with impressive results, reaching right into the corners of pictures.

• 2.5" LCD Display with Realtime Preview

• Images can be captured and assessed with the brilliant high-resolution 2.5" display using the unique Realtime Preview system, that not only shows a simple image on the monitor before the picture is taken but also permits full exposure and white balance control. Realtime Preview offers benefits that to date were only found on compact cameras, such as checking white balance or reviewing exposure compensation before picturetaking. At the touch of a button the Digilux 3 additionally allows the working aperture to also be checked with Realtime Preview activated so the resulting depth of field can be evaluated prior to exposure.

• Dust Reduction System

• A potentially annoying problem with digital SLRs that have interchangeable lenses is the possibility of dust getting inside the camera during lens changes, contaminating the image sensor. The Leica Digilux 3 takes care of this problem by incorporating a ultrasonic Wave Filter dust reduction system. The system uses ultrasonic vibration to instantly shake off any dust that might otherwise affect the image.

• Compatible with Standard and SDHC Secure Digital (SD) Cards

• The Leica Digilux 3 is compatible with Secure Digital (SD) Memory Cards, with the mass-storage SD standard based on FAT32, and SDHC super-high-capacity SD Memory Cards with capacities of more than 2 GB.

• Includes Leica D Vario-Elmarit 14-50mm f/2.8-3.5 Lens

• The Leica D Vario-Elmarit lens comprises 16 elements in 12 groups, including two aspherical lenses, and is based on the Four Thirds standard. Featuring a focal length from 14mm to 50mm (35mm equivalent: 28mm to 100mm), the lens is the first interchangeable lens from Leica developed exclusively for digital SLR cameras. It provides high definition image rendering that conveys even the finest details and nuances, and minimizes distortion and peripheral vignetting at the wide end. The lens incorporates MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), developed by Panasonic, and makes it possible - without using a tripod - to capture clear, beautiful images even in macro shooting or low-lit situations, giving users more shooting flexibility. And to assure precise control over the MEGA O.I.S., the Venus Engine is integrated into the lens unit. To improve operating ease, there is an aperture ring in addition to the focus ring and zoom ring, giving users more intuitive aperture adjustment.
