"The majestic and dignified appearance of the images that this piece is composed of will never tell the true story that was unfolding when these shots were taken. In reality, I was in the middle of a layover in London and transferring myself, my checked luggage and my photographic equipment between Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Having become lost temporarily while trying to walk from the train station to Big Ben, I took these handheld shots as I sweat profusely, cursed the other tourists I kept bumping into and counted down the time until my next flight departed. Fortunately, perfect weather, true black and white and a quality zoom lens saved the day."
Erik Cockrell first discovered his passion for capturing uncommon glimpses of uncommon places during his first vacation to Greece long ago during which he captured spectacular images of the Greek Isles. Prior to this he had received his first camera as a birthday present and had only used it once to take very unbecoming photos of his cat in his backyard. However, during his first travels, he realized that inspiration and beauty surrounded him on every side. It was simply up to him to actively look and engage the world around him. Since then, he has traveled extensively and always hoped to return having captured a unique and intimate view of the beauty, architecture, common people and nature throughout the world. He hopes to continue this passion both professionally and personally as he builds a varied and remarkable portfolio.
