Hands-On Concert Photography at The Ballroom (Formerly Spider House) with Fujifilm

Austin is well known as the "Live Music Capital of the World." So let's take advantage of that and learn how to make better images of musicians in low light settings. From getting the gig to learning techniques for successfully shooting small or large concerts, Casey Holder, Matt & Pat from Fujifilm will share variables that you are sure to encounter, as well as tips for overcoming them.

We’ll get down to the nitty gritty of what to expect when preparing to shoot a show or concert, some of the pitfalls that you'll want to avoid as well as the "must have" shots that you should always get. We will also cover etiquette and how to make sure you're courteous and unobtrusive with your craft.

This class will be open to no more than 25 students who will have exclusive early access to The Ballroom to learn from Casey & Matt, along with the opportunity to photograph the opening band during their private soundcheck and rehearsal. Fujifilm will provide FREE loaner equipment to students including camera bodies and fast prime lenses that are optimal for photographing in the low-light scenarios you'll find in a majority of Austin's venues. At 7:30 p.m., the venue will open to the public for a free show sponsored by Precision Camera and Fujifilm. You will be able to shoot with Fujifilm loaner equipment for the entire show. 

We guarantee you'll walk away feeling confident and ready to capture the mood and soul of any show.

The Show — Class Format

In conjunction with Fujifilm and The Ballroom -


8 to 8:45 p.m. - Tortuga Shades

9 to 9:45 p.m. - Lena Luca

10 to 11 p.m. - Tiarra Girls

Class registrants will have early access to the venue, where Casey and Matt will walk them through pointers and help them shoot soundcheck. 

The Venue

The class and the subsequent concert will take place at The Ballroom (formerly Spider House), 2906 Fruth St, Austin, TX 78705. Please visit the venue's WEBSITE for more information. 

Tentative Schedule:

Venue open for CLASS ONLY: 5:45 to 7:30 p.m. (30 minute private sound check with Tortuga Shades from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m.)

Venue open for public show: 7:30 p.m.

Show: 8 to 11 p.m.

Loaner Equipment

Fujifilm will provide loaner equipment for the course at no cost. Registrants must bring a memory card.


This class is intended for individuals comfortable operating their DSLR or mirrorless camera. The ideal candidate is an intermediate photographer wishing to take better quality images of local performers in small to mid-size venues, or the advanced photographer desiring to learn a new discipline.

Class & Event Cancellations

Tier 2: Special Events and One-Time Classes
You have up until seven days before a scheduled Mock Wedding, Flash Fest, Portraits in Depth Series, Photo Campouts (including Spring and Fall Photo Camping Extravaganza), special events and one-time classes to cancel and receive a full refund or to reschedule. If you do not show up for a tier 2 class your registration will be forfeited and you will not be permitted a refund or to reschedule. Cancellations made within 7 days of the class will receive a 50% refund.

Minimum Enrollment
Each class needs a minimum number of students to enroll before the class can “make.” If the minimum enrollment has not been met two business days before the class begins, the class will be cancelled. All students who enrolled in the class will be notified by telephone or email, and may transfer to a different class or be issued a refund (see refund procedure). We encourage all students to enroll as soon as registration begins. Please check your phone and email messages, including your SPAM.

How to Reschedule or Cancel a Class
Please contact the store at 512-467-7676 or email to cancel a class. Class cancellations or requests to be rescheduled that are sent through other channels, such as Facebook or messages, will not be honored.
