Intermediate Photo Editing: Affinity
One of the main advantages of Affinity over the older Photoshop is the ease with which its modern user interface allows for complex image edits. Affinity’s powerful layer system allows a photographer to bring together spectacular images from numerous source images.
Whether you are a landscape photographer combining bracketed images, a commercial photographer creating conceptual cinematic images from sources shot in different locations, or simply someone that wants to take a portrait from a 9.5 in camera to a perfect 10, Affinity is a great option. This class will tackle the techniques you need.
Are you new to Affinity and detailed image editing? Consider starting with our Basic Photo Editing: Affinity class. It will familiarize you with Affinity and the core concepts this class is based on.
• Creating high quality pixel masks
• Created vector/bezier masks
• Refining masks
• Accessing the full power of blend modes to bring an image together
• Grouping and combining pixel layers, adjustment layers and masks in powerful ways
• “Selling” your composite by adding real fake “artifacts” and “defects” that would exist in a “real” image.
• Adding lighting effects
• Targeted noise reduction
This workshop is designed for photographers already basically familiar with Affinity Photo, or who have considerable experience in another similar destructive image editor (e.g. Photoshop).
Photographers new to destructive image editing and not already familiar with concepts like layer based editing should consider our Basic Photo Editing: Affinity class first.
A laptop or tablet with Affinity installed if you want to “click along.”
Note: the iPad version of Affinity looks different than the desktop version, but the concepts covered all apply. Bring your tablet and Andrew will help you learn to use it!
Schedule and Format
This is a classroom only class. Students are encouraged to bring a laptop and “click along.” Students are encouraged to interrupt and ask questions.
About the Instructor
Andrew Fritz is a self taught photographer who comes from a software engineering background. On his very first trip with a camera he discovered night photography and has never looked back. He developed his night photography skills through trial and error in environments from the near perfect darkness of west Texas to bright urban settings around Washington DC and Austin. When not making night time images, Andrew is shooting for AzulOx Visuals making a variety of images from weddings, to architecture and everything in between. Andrew loves solving problems but more than that, he loves sharing his knowledge with others, helping them grow.
