with LUMIX Ambassador Shiv Verma

Join us for the perfect getaway in beautiful West Texas! Together with Panasonic, we will be staying at the gorgeous family-owned Twistflower Ranch Nature Retreat. This ranch is made up of 5,800 acres of sweeping views and abundant wildlife. This workshop will focus on landscape, wildlife and night photography. Learn from professional photographer Shiv Verma at this exquisite location with endless opportunity for photographing. You can expect canyon views from your private cabin (booked separately) equipped with a native stone fireplace, or sit poolside to unwind from shooting.

Friday - Sept. 3, 2021
1-3 pm - Meet and settle in early afternoon
3:30-5 pm - Learn the essentials of nature photography, photo class at the Ranch
5-7:45 pm - Capturing wildlife at the blinds - 5 Participants
5:45-8:15 pm - Landscape photography at cliffs with the instructor (pre-session instructions will be provided) - 5 Participants
8:30 pm - Dinner at the Ranch
9:30-11:45 pm - Night Photography Workshop  (pre-session instructions will be provided including camera settings, focusing and settings for image stacking) - All participants
Saturday - Sept. 4, 2021
6 am - Breakfast 
6:30-9:30 am - (groups of 3/4) capturing wildlife at the blinds with instructor in one of the blinds - All participants
9:30-12 pm - Participant Photo Review Q and A, Help with post-processing
Noon - 4:30 pm Break: Lunch, Pool, Relax.  The instructor will be available for Q&A and post processing help.
5:00-7:45 pm - Capturing wildlife at the blinds - 5 Participants
5:45-8:15 pm - Landscape photography at cliffs with the instructor (pre-session instructions will be provided) - 5 Participants
8:30 pm - Dinner - Our host will provide a history or the ranch and other interesting stories.
9:30pm - 11:45pm - Night Photography Workshop (pre-session instructions will be provided including camera settings for star trails, time-lapse and image stacking using a rotator) - All participants
Sunday - Sept. 5, 2021
6 am - Breakfast
6:30-9:40 am - (groups of 3/4) capturing wildlife at the blinds with the instructor - All participants
10 am - Brunch and goodbyes as per your schedule
11:00am - 1:00pm optional Photo review with Q and A and post processing.  (Available for participants with late departure)
Equipment requirements are as follows:
1 or 2 camera bodies - one with long exposure capability.
A telephoto prime or zoom lens (300 mm focal length or higher) higher is preferred for smaller birds
A fast wide to super wide 18mm or wider lens. f/2.8 or faster is preferred
A landscape lens that will cove the range 24 to 70.A 70-200 lens will be useful for more intimate landscapes.
Please bing a Macro lens for photographing small subject matter during the down times. (optional)
A sturdy tripod and a ball head for landscapes and night photography. 
An optional beanbag to support your camera/lens in the blind particularly if you have a heavy lens.
Filters:  Circular polarizer, ND filters various strengths to do some slow shutter speed photography and time-lapse
A remote shutter release wired or wireless.  An intervalometer external or internal - for both time-lapse and star-stacking night photography.
A headlamp that has a red filter of has red led's for night photography
OPTIONAL - Star tracker/rotator
Laptop with your preferred editing software.  Lightroom, Photoshop, Capture One.

About the Instructor


Shiv Verma, FPSA, MNEC is a published author, photographer, educator and technologist. He is a Panasonic Lumix Global Ambassador, Wacom Pro-Artist and an X-Rite Coloratti. He has been photographing for over 50 years and has evolved his photography to express his intense devotion to wildlife and nature. Over the years has earned numerous awards and recognition both nationally and internationally. Shiv devotes a great deal of his time formally reviewing photography related products, to education in digital photography and is a speaker and competition judge. He conducts photo tours and workshops worldwide and typically has one tour a month.

Shiv’s book Time-Lapse Imagery was published in February 2014.

He belongs to multiple photographic clubs and associations and serves as Vice President of the New England Camera Club Council. He is the immediate past Vice President of Learning and Technology of the Photographic Society of America. He is a member of the Professional Photographers Association of America; past Board Member, General Chairman of the PSA International and Chairman of Nature Division, PSA (Photographic Society of America). In addition, he is a member of the North American Nature Photographers Association (NANPA), Greater Lynn Photographic Association and the Massachusetts Camera Naturalists.

Shiv was honored as a Fellow of  the Photographic Society of America in 2020, and as an Associate of the Photographic Society of America in 2013.  He was elected a Master Member of the New England Camera Club Council in 2008.

Class Cancellations

Tier 2: Special Events and One-Time Classes
You have up until seven days before a scheduled Mock Wedding, Flash Fest, Portraits in Depth Series, Photo Campouts (including Spring and Fall Photo Camping Extravaganza), special events and one-time classes to cancel and receive a full refund or to reschedule. If you do not show up for a tier 2 class your registration will be forfeited and you will not be permitted a refund or to reschedule. Cancellations made within 7 days of the class will receive a 50% refund.

How to Reschedule or Cancel a Class
Please contact the store at 512-467-7676 or email to cancel a class. Class cancellations or requests to be rescheduled that are sent through other channels, such as Facebook or messages, will not be honored.

Minimum Enrollment
Each class needs a minimum number of students to enroll before the class can “make.” If the minimum enrollment has not been met two business days before the class begins, the class will be cancelled. All students who enrolled in the class will be notified by telephone or email, and may transfer to a different class or be issued a refund. We encourage all students to enroll as soon as registration begins. Please check your phone and email messages, including your SPAM.
