Yosemite Photo Workshop
with Andrew Fritz
The legend of some places seem unbelievable. Yosemite National Park is one of those places. It’s legend, created through the photography of Ansel Adams and the writings of John Muir, among others, is so large, so epic, surely no place could live up to it...
Yosemite is a land of waterfalls straight out of lost world fantasies: sheer cliffs so tall they take days to climb, dramatically changeable weather: snow, rain, hail and clear skies all in the same day, a vast forested mountain wonderland with a glacier carved valley at its core.
The park is an unimaginably splendid and vast exceeding all expectations. From the sweeping views and dramatic geography to be found almost everywhere, to the changing weather, misty forests and crashing waterfalls, Yosemite delivers. It is the very definition of an epic landscape.
Each day, Andrew will lead participants on a set of hikes and photo walks. Generally there will be a sunrise hike and a sunset hike or shoot location, reserving the midday for recuperation, photo editing, teaching and socializing. Andrew will lead night photo hikes to make star photos, weather allowing. He will also be available throughout to answer 1:1 questions and provide personal teaching.
This is an active workshop! Each day we will potentially hike 2 to 10 miles and possibly more (broken up into several hikes). Some of the hikes will be strenuous involving considerable altitude change (the valley floor is at 3500’ and the rim is at around 6000 feet). Others will be easy or short. There will be a briefing on the upcoming day’s hikes each night. Each participant is encouraged to go on only the hikes they feel up to. Know your limits.
We will have a group campfire each night (burn ban allowing). Plan on hanging out and chatting about photography or whatever is top of mind. It will be a great time to share stories from the day’s hikes and other adventures.
This workshop is limited to 8 participants.
Pre-Workshop Facebook Live
Andrew will conduct a pre-workshop facebook live two weeks prior to the workshop to help everyone prep for the trip. He will answer questions and discuss what to expect. Participants will receive an invite via email with instructions.
Camping & Lodging
The workshop is organized as a camp out. A reserved campsite is included in your registration.
Have an RV? Inquire before you book. The park has significant limitations on large vehicles, such as self propelled or towed RVs due to the steep grades and tight winding roads. We have reserved some RV accessible spots to be allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Please contact andrew (Andrew@AzulOx.com) prior to booking to make sure an RV spot is available.
About the Instructor
Andrew is a self taught photographer who comes from a software engineering background. On his very first trip with a camera he discovered night photography, and like many photographers he has always been drawn to the beauty of the outdoors. He developed his landscape and night photography skills through trial and error in various environments from the sprawling stark beauty of west Texas to bright urban settings around Washington DC and Austin. When not making landscape, nature and night time images, Andrew is shooting for AzulOx Visuals making a variety of images from weddings, to architecture and everything in between. Andrew loves solving problems but more than that, he loves sharing his knowledge with others, helping them grow.
