Why we host the Used Camera Gear Swap Meet
Posted by Casey Holder on 6th Feb 2017
Believe it or not, we don't make a dime from the Gear Swap Meets that we host.
“We want to just share our love of used photography gear with the community,” said Parker Roan, Used Equipment Specialist and swap meet organizer.
Roan has worked at Precision for about two years and, just like you, loves to nerd out about used photography gear.
"One day I got online to look for auctions and swap meets in the area and was surprised to find there weren't any at all," he said. "There was a pretty large one in San Antonio, but I found out that it has been gone for a while."
Spurred by his research and customers asking if we would ever try to host a swap meet, we finally did. We are now on our fourth show, and the meets grow bigger each time.
As it's grown, we've met a lot of great people. The event now draws collectors from hours away that bring odd and very rare items. And when a bunch of photo nerds get into the same room, magic seems to happen.
In our first show, Roan accidentally double booked a table. He gave it to the customer that arrived first, a woman selling a lighting kit. The customer who originally booked the table then showed up, bought her light kit and then took over the table. It's funny how everything works out.
"The biggest thing I want the sellers and buyers to know right off is that Precision is hosting these, but it's not for profit," he said. "I feel like the used gear community is a culture all its own. From collecting, shooting vintage equipment or just looking to save some money on modern gear — we get it."
Every swap meet we offer free gear testing on anything you might want to buy. And we promise there will be some photo nerds, just like you.
