Home Studio Photography Setup Class
with Tim Babiak
Do you want to set up a home studio and want to know where to start? Or maybe you've picked up a few odds and ends and want to better understand how to use it. This workshop will cover gear selection and basic lighting and posing skills to help you get started with your home portrait studio.
Please register early, within 5 days of the start date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation.

- Gear - the stuff you need and the stuff you can live without
- Backdrops - essentials and inexpensive creative alternatives
- Lighting and modifiers - umbrellas, softboxes reflectors and more
- Classic portrait lighting setups that work for everyone
- Basic use of a handheld incident light meter
- Posing basics - how to pose anyone to make them look their best
Audience
This class is targeted for all levels of photographers who wish to get started with home studio portraiture.
Objective
This workshop serves as a great starting point for those seeking to get started with flash photography at home to create studio portraits. Students will have the opportunity to photograph a professional model and can expect to leave the class with a greater understanding of home studio portraiture.

Schedule and Format
This class consists of lecture, demonstration and practice. Students will see the instructor demonstrate techniques then students will photograph a professional model using the material they’ve learned. The instructor will provide continuing feedback to students during the workshop to help improve their results. A non-commercial model release will be provided as part of this class.
About the Instructor
Tim Babiak is a full-time photographer and a long-time instructor at PCU. Tim is a PPA Master Photographer, Photographic Craftsman and Certified Professional Photographer. Tim has served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Austin Professional Photographers Association and is a two-time recipient of the Photographer of the Year award from the Austin Professional Photographers Association. Tim is also a two-time Bronze Medalist in PPA’s International Print Competition.
Class & Event Cancellations
Tier 1: Standard Classes
If you register for a tier 1 class and do not show up, your payment will be forfeited. You can reschedule a class only if notice is given 24 hours before the start time of the class. Unless otherwise stated, class refunds are only issued to customers that provide notice to the store that they would like a refund 48 hours before the class. Refunds will not be issued to customers who sign up for a class but fail to attend.
Minimum Enrollment
Each class needs a minimum number of students to enroll before the class can “make.” If the minimum enrollment has not been met two business days before the class begins, the class will be cancelled. All students who enrolled in the class will be notified by telephone or email, and may transfer to a different class or be issued a refund (see refund procedure). We encourage all students to enroll as soon as registration begins. Please check your phone and email messages, including your SPAM.
How to Reschedule or Cancel a Class
Please contact the store at 512-467-7676 or email classes@precision-camera.com to cancel a class. Class cancellations or requests to be rescheduled that are sent through other channels, such as Facebook or Meetup.com messages, will not be honored. Please note that class refunds are only issued during business hours, Monday through Friday.
