153-Point Multi-CAM 20K Autofocus System

The D850 features an autofocus system with 153 focus points, 99 cross-type sensors and a dedicated AF processor, which offers quick response times to benefit tracking fast and randomly moving subjects. The AF system also benefits in low-light shooting to -4 EV so you get the perfect shot in even the darkest, low contrast situations.

4K UHD Video Recording and 8K Time-Lapse

Nikon has designed the D850 to be a more-than-capable multimedia camera with its 4K Ultra HD video recording capabilities. Utilize the cameras full-frame glory and record video using the total width and resolution of the back-side illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor. Now, with a dedicated power aperture (PV) button it is possible to achieve smooth, continuous exposure transitions when switching from light to dark areas, and auto ISO can also be used in changing lighting conditions to maintain exposure. Focusing your video has never been easier with Nikon's Touch to Focus option, simply just touch where you want to focus when recording in Live View.

Capture breathtaking time-lapse by using either the in-camera 4K time-lapse movies or the Interval Timer Mode to achieve 8K time-lapses. Both methods allow up to 9999 exposures and will also allow you to utilize Silent Live Mode to bypass the mechanical shutter and mirror movement, saving thousands of shutter cycles and improving the D850's already outstanding battery performance.

Scene Recognition System and Exposure Metering

The D850 features an intelligent Scene Recognition System to analyze all aspects of a scene, such as: brightness, contrast, subject distance, and the scenes colors to quickly determine an accurate exposure and white balance setting to best render the scene at hand. The information that is gathered also checks reference images to ensure consistency from image to image.
