Recap: Flash Fest!

Recap: Flash Fest!

18th Aug 2018

Not even the rain could keep us from having a blast at Flash Fest!

Our first ever Flash Fest was a hit! Our dedicated group of students and instructors braved the intimidating radar, clouds, and occasional downpour to get out and make so many beautiful photos!

We explored all over Austin — South Congress, The Long Center, Bull Creek, not to mention had some intimate studio time right here at PCV.

We explored all aspects of controlling light with  Godox lights - from exploring the difference between modifers (...beauty dish, umbrella, softbox, grid, the list goes on!).

We can't wait for the next one - sign up for our email list and join us on the next adventure!

Flash Fest was a three day, intensive workshop designed to help students get up to speed shooting off-camera flash portraits outdoors with absolutely no previous experience with flash. We worked from Friday, Aug. 10 to Sunday Aug. 12 with fantastic instructors Todd White and Tim Babiak in a combination of classroom sessions and model shoots around Austin.

Students gained confidence throughout the exhaustive weekend shooting with TTL flash, manual flash power and directing our amazing lineup of professional models. Precision provided all the lighting equipment and triggers, so students just had to bring cameras.

Students had the option of choosing which style of model access shoots they wanted to attend - lifestyle/editorial or family/traditional - but would often bounce between the sessions getting the best of both worlds.

This event is the closest event we have to our biggest education event of the year -  PCU Weekend - where students have intimate access to models, gear and top-tier instructors in very small groups allowing for maximum time with models and instructors.
