Choosing a Camera Bag

Choosing a bag to hold you gear can be tough. There are so many different bags, so many designs, and so many choices. The look of the bag is important as well, as we want it to fit our personal style. Finding the right bag is important. The one we choose will carry the precious gear in which we’ve invested. Choosing the wrong bag means wasted time, wasted money, and the new burden of offloading what turned out to be the wrong choice. It’s worth it to take your time to choose the bag that is the right fit for you - a bag that will complement your shooting style, and your look. We want you to find that right bag, so we've described what we think are the top 3 features to look for in a bag that will always bring you to the right choice. Read on before you go shopping for you next camera bag, and remember these tips when you do.

1. Build

The build of the bag is probably the most important of its features. A bag with a good build will last long and safely transport all of your precious gear. Reinforced, strong material is the main component of a well-built bag. The second, is the feel of its material. If the bag looks and/or feels like it won’t be able to hold heavy camera gear, or will fall apart after a few uses, it’s not a good bag. A bag should feel strong in your hands and reassure you that it will be a good long-term tool. Like most products, a well-built bag will become a reliable piece of your setup, relieving the stress brought on by an otherwise poorly made bag.

2. Versatility

A bag’s versatility is defined by how many different configurations can be made to accommodate different gear. Different shoots demand different gear, so it’s important to be able to take what you need, when you need it, without having to carry more bags. For some, specific bags for specific gear might work, but that won’t be an option for everyone. When we need to switch up the gear we take out with us, we need a bag that can be reconfigured to fit whatever gear we need. When you’re choosing a bag, make sure you choose one that allows for different gear combos, lest you be left carrying more bags than you want.

3. Look

It might seem unnecessary, but the look of the bag is very important. You may not always want to admit it, but you definitely judge a bag by its appearance when you shop. Functionality is of utmost importance, but the look is important too. Whether you’ve discovered it or not, you have a personal style. Whether you realize it or not, that style affects how you feel when you’re shooting. How you feel when you shooting affects your confidence and productivity. We’re all at our best when we feel good, and feeling good about ourselves starts with feeling good about how we look. After you’ve found a bag that matches your build and versatility requirements, make sure it also fits your style. Trust us, you’ll be so much happier with your purchase if you like the look of your bag. That final component will bring on a feeling of satisfaction that you may not have expected you could get from a bag!
