This class is held in our large classroom measuring over 1000 square feet to ensure social distancing. This class requires face masks.

Mastering light, moving with your subject, fashion and portrait lighting. These are all concepts you will be learning from Rob Oades in this exclusive workshop. Rob has learned directly from greats such as Rankin, David Sims, Mario Testino and Annie Leibovitz. Now he's ready to turn around and pass that knowledge onto you in this workshop! He will also be diving into his unique lighting setups, light shaping tools, and lighting your backdrop.

Lecture - Friday, Feb. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Don't miss our lecture on Friday night before the workshop to learn all about how Rob started out his photography journey in London assisting some of the biggest names in photography and how it led to his work now. Then he will dive into a preview of what he'll be going over in the Saturday workshop.

    This class is targeted for all levels of photographers who wish to learn more about portrait photography and lighting. Participants should have a good understanding of their gear and know how to manipulate their camera settings.

    Required Equipment

    Digital SLR or Mirrorless camera and lenses you like, along with your usual cards batteries etc. A Light meter is a bonus, I'm old school. Note taking materials. Good glove for holding a light.

    Schedule and Format

    This class consists of a brief lecture, demonstration and practice. Students will see the instructor demonstrate techniques, and then students will photograph a professional model using the material they’ve learned. The instructor will provide continuing feedback to students during the workshop to help improve their results. A non-commercial model release will be provided as part of this class.

    About the Instructor

    Rob is a photographer from London, having recently moved to and starting to make a scene in Austin. Rob began his photography career with a degree and rapidly worked his way through the London studios to work with the world's biggest photographers as an assistant. To mention a few... Rankin, David Sims, Mario Testino and Annie Leibovitz. Now on his own journey and having worked with brands such as Adidas, Levis and major London fashion houses, Rob uses an old school approach to his work, Slowing things down, being less digital and more in the moment.
