Milky Way Photography
w/ support from Nikon

Man has gazed in wonder at the milky way throughout recorded history. Venturing into the dark with a modern camera allows that wonder to be captured in image form. Learn how, when and where to photograph the milky way during this hands on workshop.

We will begin the evening in the Precision Camera classroom learning the basics of astrophotography. We will cover camera settings and tips that you should be aware of when shooting the stars. Next, we will all drive out to a private ranch to get hands on experience with our professional photographer.

Nikon will be joining us for this workshop and will have several of their Z-Series Full-Frame mirrorless cameras and a selection of wide fast lenses available for loan at no additional cost. Terrence, our Nikon rep, will also be on site and in the field for Nikon specific questions and guidance. Attendees are not required to shoot Nikon for this event.

Please be aware that this is a LATE workshop, and you will have to drive/carpool between Precision and a private ranch. We will be walking off road/sidewalk after dark. Everyone should wear sturdy shoes such as hiking boots. Long pants are also advisable.

*This class will take place in all weather, rain or shine. Hands on portion may be postponed.

Class will begin in the Precision Camera classroom and we'll spend 90 minutes going over the night sky orientation and learning the various steps to make Milky Way photos. After the classroom portion, we'll drive to a private ranch. Students will then make Milky Way photos with the help of the instructor.

* Students are responsible for their own transportation from Precision Camera to and from the private ranch.

About the Instructor

Andrew is a self taught photographer who comes from a software engineering background. On his very first trip with a camera he discovered night photography and has never looked back. He developed his night photography skills through trial and error in environments from the near perfect darkness of west Texas to bright urban settings around Washington DC and Austin. When not making night time images, Andrew is shooting for AzulOx Visuals making a variety of images from weddings, to architecture and everything inbetween. Andrew loves solving problems but more than that, he loves sharing his knowledge with others, helping them grow.
