Studio Photography Intensive Class (Austin)
Studio Photography Intensive
with Lindsey Ruth and SIGMA
Go beyond the basics in this in-depth workshop covering the full studio workflow, including pre-production, lighting and shooting, and post-processing. Learn how to plan, light, and edit professional-quality portraits with confidence and creativity.
Creating exceptional portraits requires much more than knowing how to use a camera. A successful studio session begins with thoughtful planning, continues with intentional lighting and posing, and ends with a polished post-processing workflow. In this comprehensive workshop, you'll learn every step of the studio portrait process—from the initial concept to the final delivered image. We'll begin with pre-production, covering how to prepare for a successful portrait session by selecting the right gear, choosing backgrounds, planning lighting setups, coordinating wardrobe, and organizing your workflow before your subject even arrives. You'll learn how proper planning improves efficiency, reduces stress during the shoot, and leads to more consistent results. The hands-on portion of the workshop focuses on building professional-quality lighting from the ground up. Explore the characteristics of hard and soft light, learn how to use key, fill, rim, hair, and background lights, and discover how modifiers such as softboxes, umbrellas, beauty dishes, strip boxes, reflectors, and grids affect the look of your portraits. We'll discuss lighting ratios, controlling contrast, creating separation from the background, and designing lighting setups that complement different face shapes, skin tones, and creative styles. By the end of the workshop, you'll understand not only how to create professional studio portraits, but why each step in the workflow contributes to a stronger final image. This class is ideal for photographers looking to elevate both their technical skills and their creative vision.
