The Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS USM Z is a professional-grade standard zoom lens for Canon RF mount cameras, holding the distinction of being the first constant f/2.8 zoom to cover this focal range in any lens system. Canon's large-diameter RF mount and short back focus distance made the design possible, delivering f/2.8 speed across the full 24-105mm range without the extreme size and weight penalties that would come from adapting a comparable DSLR-era design. The optical formula consists of 23 elements in 18 groups, including 4 UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) elements and 3 aspherical elements (2 glass-molded and 1 replica) to control chromatic and spherical aberrations across the zoom range. Dual Nano USM motors drive fast, quiet autofocus with electronic parfocal zooming, meaning focus is maintained as the lens zooms, a valuable feature for video work. Optical Image Stabilization provides up to 5.5 stops of correction on its own, extending to 8.0 stops when paired with in-body stabilization on compatible cameras through Coordinated IS. Canon's Super Spectra and Air Sphere Coatings work together to minimize ghosting and flare, and a fluorine coating on the front element repels water, oil, and dust. The lens maintains a 0.45m minimum focus distance at all focal lengths and is compatible with the optional PZ-E2/PZ-E2B power zoom adapters for smooth motorized zoom control during video capture.
