The Laowa 90mm f/2.8 CA-Dreamer Macro 2X is a full-frame manual focus macro prime designed for mirrorless cameras, offering a 2:1 maximum magnification ratio that goes beyond standard 1:1 life-size reproduction. Built around an apochromatic (APO) optical formula, it controls chromatic aberration across both in-focus and out-of-focus areas — a meaningful advantage in macro work where color fringing is a common challenge at high magnification. With focus travel extending all the way to infinity, the lens doubles as a capable short telephoto for portrait and commercial work without any accessories or adapters.
The optical formula consists of 13 elements in 10 groups including three ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) elements and three high-refractive-index elements. A 13-blade aperture diaphragm produces smooth, rounded bokeh, and the internal focusing design keeps the lens length constant throughout the focus range — preventing accidental contact with subjects during close-up work and reducing dust ingestion over time. At 619g and 120mm in length, it is notably compact for a 2x macro lens covering full frame, and the all-metal construction gives it a solid, well-damped handling character. The Sony E version is fully manual with no electronic contacts.
