Used Laowa FF II 9mm f/5.6 W-Dreamer Lens for Sony E
The Laowa FF II 9mm f/5.6 W-Dreamer is a full-frame ultra-wide rectilinear prime for Sony E-mount cameras, delivering a 135° angle of view without the barrel distortion characteristic of fisheye lenses. At 9mm it is among the widest rectilinear lenses available for full-frame mirrorless cameras, covering a field of view that is broadly useful for architecture, interiors, landscape, and astrophotography. The f/5.6 maximum aperture is a deliberate design choice that allows the lens to remain compact and lightweight at 350g and 66mm in length — considerably smaller than competing ultra-wide options. A 5-blade aperture produces distinct 10-point sunstars when stopped down one stop.
The optical formula uses 14 elements in 10 groups incorporating two aspherical and two extra-low dispersion elements to minimize chromatic aberration and distortion across the extreme focal length. The minimum focus distance of 12cm from sensor gives the lens a near-macro close-focusing capability for its focal length, enabling a mix of ultra-wide perspective with exaggerated foreground elements at close range. The lens is fully manual with no electronic contacts, and the built-in petal-shaped lens hood combined with the protruding front element means there is no front filter thread — a 100mm magnetic square filter holder is available separately from Laowa for landscape use.
