High-Speed Super-Telephoto Zoom
Combining the speed and optical quality of a prime lens with the versatility of a super-telephoto zoom, the NIKKOR Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S Lens from Nikon is a high-powered tool perfect for capturing sports, wildlife, and more. Featuring a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture and bleeding-edge optical, vibration reduction, and autofocus systems, this super-telephoto zoom is made unique by the incorporation of a 1.4x teleconverter, allowing you to rapidly switch to an effective 420mm f/4 lens for greater reach.
Built-In 1.4x Teleconverter
- Incorporated 1.4x teleconverter allows you to instantly extend your reach to 420mm with the flip of a switch.
- By integrating the teleconverter into the lens housing, it is optically matched to the lens for improved imaging performance and also fully maintains the lens' weather sealing.
- When the teleconverter is in use, this 120-300mm f/2.8 becomes an effective 168-420mm f/4 lens.
S-Line Optics
- Fast f/2.8 maximum aperture combined with the telephoto zoom range allows you to produce an extremely shallow depth of field in order to separate subjects from a busy background. The large aperture also ensures this lens excels in low-light situations everywhere from the woods at twilight to a poorly lit football field.
- One Super ED, one ED (extra-low dispersion) and one SR (short-wavelength refractive) element combine with one Aspherical element to virtually eliminate chromatic aberrations, color fringing, and distortion for a more accurate final image.
- The SR element features a specialized high-dispersion design that refracts wavelengths shorter than blue; this helps achieve truly accurate color rendering and also aids in making the lens design more compact.
Silky Swift VCM Autofocus
- Silky Swift Voice Coil Motor (VCM) uses magnets instead of gears to move the focusing groups at higher initials speeds and with greater accuracy and smoothness. A guide bar is also employed, which helps reduce focusing vibrations for greater continuous focusing speeds.
- Upending the idea that telephoto zooms are slower than primes, the 120-300mm f/2.8 delivers 30% faster autofocus performance than the Nikon 400mm f/2.8, making it even easier to capture your subject in crisp detail.
- Also ideal for video, the Silky Swift VCM is designed to be especially quiet and minimizes focus breathing for improved accuracy while recording.
Edge-to-Edge Image Stabilization
- Vibration Reduction image stabilization reduces the appearance of camera shake by over 6.5 stops from the center to the edges, making the lens more reliable for handheld use in low-light situations.
- Synchro VR is also supported when paired with compatible cameras featuring sensor-shift VR, which combines in-body VR with optical VR for improved results.
Crystal Clear Coatings
For ultimate resistance to backlight, a combination of Meso Amorphous and ARNEO Coats provide anti-reflective protection from light hitting at all angles. These coatings help to suppress ghosting, reflections, and flare for higher contrast and more accurate color response when working in strong lighting and backlit conditions.
Portable Design, Intuitive Handling
- The weight of the lens has been drastically reduced without compromising the image quality through the thinning of lens elements, reduction of moving lens groups, and simplification of mechanical components.
- Advanced weather sealing incorporates rubber gaskets to prevent dust and moisture from entering the lens.
- Two customizable L-Fn buttons can be set to configure subject tracking, AF lock, image playback, or other modes.
- Store a focusing position using the Memory Set button so you can instantly return to this by position by rotating the Fn ring-perfect for capturing fleeting movements.
- An Arca-type plate is integrated into the lens foot for more convenient mounting on tripods and other stabilization systems.
- The lens hood has been redesigned with minimal taper for improved portability.
- Compatible with optional Z-Teleconverter TC-1.4x and TC-2x in addition to the incorporated 1.4x TC to further extend the reach of this lens.
- Choose between using 112mm threaded filters on the front element or drop-in 46mm filters via the included filter holder.
