Sony FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens
The Sony FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens combines a lightweight design with a super telephoto length and a bright aperture making it the ideal lens for sports, wildlife and nature photographers. It features a fast f/2.8 constant aperture that allows for great depth of field and maximizes performance in low-light shooting situations. Three fluorite elements minimize chromatic aberration and one ED element further increases performance and image quality by reducing flare and ghosting while shooting in harsh conditions. Spherical aberration is carefully controlled during design and manufacture to achieve the highest possible bokeh quality. Optional high-performance 1.4x and 2.0x tele-converters are supported, providing outstanding resolution and contrast even at 800 mm.
New XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors deliver higher thrust than conventional types, achieving up to a 5x improvement in moving-subject tracking performance with current and future camera bodies. Two of these new motors and newly developed algorithms quietly drive the lens's large focus lens group faster and more precisely than ever before. The full speed performance of advanced camera bodies can be applied to capturing dynamic sports or wildlife subjects.
Weighing only 6.4 lbs, this 400mm lens is the lightest super telephoto lens in its class. The weight of the lens is also redistributed to the back where it would sit over a monopod, making tracking subjects and panning easier. Additionally, Optical SteadyShot can combine with in-body stabilization to provide 5-axis stabilization.
The magnesium-alloy body of this lens is also weather sealed to protect against dirt, dust, and moisture while shooting in harsh weather conditions.
