The Panasonic Lumix DC-S9 is a compact full-frame mirrorless camera built around a 24.2MP BSI CMOS sensor and Panasonic's latest processing engine, designed specifically for social media content creators as the smallest and lightest camera in the Lumix S series. Released in June 2024, the S9 departs from the traditional DSLR-style body of other Lumix cameras, omitting the front grip and viewfinder entirely to keep the body compact at just 486g with battery and card. Phase detection autofocus with 779 on-sensor points and subject tracking pairs with 5-axis Dual IS 2 image stabilization rated at 6.5 stops, and a dedicated LUT (Look Up Table) button on the rear panel gives quick access to in-camera color looks, similar to social media filters.
The S9 records open-gate video using the full sensor area at resolutions up to 6K, allowing multiple aspect ratio crops to be pulled from a single take without reshooting. At C4K and 4K, the camera supports up to 60p in 4:2:2 10-bit color, and V-Log and V-Gamut deliver over 14 stops of dynamic range alongside Dual Native ISO. Panasonic's Lumix Lab smartphone app enables custom LUT creation, automatic file transfer, and platform-specific video crops. The only display is a 3.0" 1.84-million-dot vari-angle touchscreen, and the accessory shoe lacks electrical contacts, meaning it cannot connect to a flash or dedicated microphone. Connectivity includes Micro HDMI, USB-C (charging supported, no UVC/UAC webcam function), a 3.5mm microphone jack, and built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There is no headphone jack.
