Canon EOS-3 35mm Film Camera
The Canon EOS-3 is a professional-grade 35mm film SLR camera built on the Canon EF lens mount, released in 1998 as a technology showcase positioned just below the flagship EOS-1 series. Its standout feature is a 45-point phase detection autofocus system paired with Eye Controlled Focus, a technology that tracks the photographer's eye position through the viewfinder to automatically select the active AF point in real time — an innovation Canon introduced with the EOS-3 that remained rare even decades later. Combined with predictive subject tracking, the camera was well suited to fast-moving subjects in sports and wildlife photography.
The camera accommodates film rated from ISO 6 to 6400, and burst shooting reaches 4 frames per second, extendable with the optional PB-E2 battery grip for higher rates and added battery capacity. Exposure metering includes 21-zone evaluative, partial, center spot, AF point-linked spot, and multi-spot modes, giving photographers precise control over exposure in demanding lighting situations. Flash support covers Canon's E-TTL, A-TTL, and TTL modes through the standard ISO hot shoe and a PC sync socket, with wireless flash operation available through compatible flash units, and sync speed reaches 1/200s. The polycarbonate-over-metal-chassis body is fully weather sealed, reflecting the EOS-3's professional-grade construction, and power comes from a single 2CR5 lithium battery rated for approximately 50 rolls of film per charge.
